Kṛṣṇa descends in the material world to educate the conditioned souls, offering them the opportunity to awaken to their eternal relationship with Him. Śrīla Prabhupāda explains that this education is both direct and indirect, manifesting through incarnations, scriptures, and realized spiritual masters. By following His instructions, one progresses steadily toward pure devotional service and ultimate spiritual perfection.
Divine Purpose of Kṛṣṇa's Education
Kṛṣṇa comes personally, or through His incarnations, to instruct humanity in spiritual truth. This education is essential because the conditioned souls mistakenly believe they are enjoying happiness in material life.
- Krsna comes once in a day of Brahma, and His incarnations also come, to educate foolish people who think that they are living happily on this earth.
- They (Krsna, Lord Caitanya or His representatives) come to canvass and educate, and thus a person in the illusory energy of the Supreme Lord gets a chance to mix with them, talk with them and take lessons from them.
Education Through Mercy and Representation
Kṛṣṇa’s mercy manifests in multiple ways, both through His own personal instruction and via the guidance of His appointed representatives. This dual approach ensures that devotees receive proper training both externally and internally.
Instruction Through Scriptures and Personal Guidance
The conditioned soul is educated through the Vedic literatures, Bhagavad-gītā, and interaction with realized spiritual masters. Śrīla Prabhupāda highlights that Kṛṣṇa’s instructions guide the devotee in both knowledge and practice.
- The forgetful conditioned soul is educated by Krsna through the Vedic literatures, the realized spiritual master and the Supersoul.
- So the first step Krsna took in educating Arjuna. The Bhagavad-gita is now being actually being spoken, bhagavan uvaca. The first basic principle is explained to Arjuna that "You do not know anything. Don't talk just like a learned man."
Progressive Development Toward Pure Devotion
Kṛṣṇa gradually elevates the devotee through practical instruction and devotional training, leading to buddhi-yoga, love for Kṛṣṇa, and ultimate return to Godhead.
- Lord Krsna in the form of Lord Caitanya educates His devotees to develop progressively to the stage of pure devotional service.
- When Krsna takes charge, He gradually educates the devotee buddhi-yogam, in devotion service, so that he may go back home, back to Godhead, Krsna. That is real auspicity.
Conclusion
Śrīla Prabhupāda emphasizes that Kṛṣṇa’s education is a divine process, progressively guiding conditioned souls toward awakening, pure devotion, and the ultimate goal of returning home to Godhead. By accepting this guidance, one’s life is transformed, moving from illusion to spiritual enlightenment.
